Why Join A Club?
The Qld Weapons Act requires anyone wishing to obtain a Firearms Licence to justify why they need it. For handgun (Cat H) there is only one acceptable reason, and that is sport. The way you legally demonstrate that requirement, is by being a member of a registered pistol club. It is a legal condition for all Cat H licence holders to be a member of a registered pistol club for the juration of their licence.
A pistol club essentially has two types of members. People who are licensed, and people who are in the process of getting their licence. It’s not like other sports clubs where you can be a casual or social member. There are also legal requirements and background checks which need to be performed before a club can accept membership.
So, if you’re interested in participating in the sport, and either have a licence or wish to obtain your licence, then joining a club is what you need to do. If you’re just interested in casual shooting and don’t want to go through the process of getting licensed, then a club is not an option for you. Who Can Join?
Gun ranges and clubs are heavily regulated. You must be:
- An Australian citizen.
- A Queensland Resident.
- 11 years old or over.
- A current Firearms Licence holder (any category), or approved by QPS (Queensland Police Service) as a “Fit and proper person”.
QPS approval is sort by submitting a Statement of Eligibility at a Police Station.
How To Join
If you meet the criteria detailed above, complete our Application Form and submit it in person at the Club, along with any other document specified in the application. You will also need to provide photo ID. If you are a current licence holder, you will need to provide the licence. NOTE: A photo of any licence or document is not acceptable. We can only accept the original documents.
